A good suspension is what primarily defines the ride quality of any vehicle. Moreover if the vehicle is used daily, then the suspension has to be well designed to give superior ride comfort.
To ensure that your scooter keeps on delivering peak performance, you will have to take care of a lot of mechanical aspects via timely servicing of your scooter.
One such aspect is the suspension. The suspension of your scooter is responsible for tackling the bumpy roads and ensure that you don't shake like the Nokia 1100. Moreover, if you traverse in places with excessive speed bumps or speed breakers, like I do, the suspension reduces the impact to some extent.

As you know, most scooters nowadays come equipped with hydraulic telescopic suspension as they provide better ride quality and handling compared to single sided suspension setups that our fathers were used to on the Bajaj Super.
The telescopic suspensions operate on an oil based mechanism and offer extended longevity to the scooter, superior ride quality, better handling and far more comfort especially on bumpy roads. But, these suspension oil needs replacing. Though not as frequently as the engine oil of course.

Telescopic forks can endure bad roads much better than their single sided counterpart. Though most brands might not give you this information via the owner's manual, but your service station mechanic will tell you that it is better to change your scooter's suspension oil after the scooter has been ridden for 20,000 to 25,000 KMs.
If the oil is not changed, the probable issues that your scooter might face is stiffer suspension which will hamper the ride quality of your scooter.
Suspension oil change for scooters is limited to the front suspension only. Most scooter brands don't offer this option for rear suspension. For the rear suspension, if you see an oil leak, you might have to change the complete suspension setup which costs roughly between Rs. 1,500 to 2,000 a unit. Go for a rear suspension replacement only if you see an oil leak, else don't break your head over it.
You can change the suspension oil at your home but, only if you know your scooter parts really well. There are quite a few videos on the internet that you can refer as most suspension setups on scooters are identical. But getting a professional help is always a better and safer choice.
So is it time for replacement of your scooters suspension oil? If yes, then please don't wait and have it replaced as soon as you can. With that said, I shall take your leave for now and I will see you with another blog on scooters very soon.
